BOTTLING NUMBER 8 . A PRIVATELY OWNED CASK NO.R08/290. ON SALE TODAY 09/11/16

SOLD OUT 1/2/17 !!!!

Bruichladdich 11 year old is matured in two sherry hogshead casks (finished in first fill sherry cask for three years) and bottled in October 2016.

An amazing and rare dram. Recommend adding a touch of water to open out this superb dram.  Tasting Notes below:

Nose: Sweet, sherried smooth with a hint of toasted oak and dark chocolate. A distinct sulphurous note of burnt matches, aka Mortlach!, with spicy overtones.

Palate: Smooth, rich, spicy fruit with vanilla tones and rich sultanas and raisins. A peppery note also detected and black cherry, liquorice, with an oily mouthfeel.

Finish: Again smooth and peppery with a long warming finish.  Better with a touch of water to bring down to around 55% abv.

OCTAVE 1 (opened 11/11/11 by Alan Mitchell and George Wilson)

TASTING NOTES FOR MORTLACH 18 year old at 55.3% abv
.

Tasting Notes kindly expressed by www.whiskyfun.com are detailed below. Thanks Serge!  What an amazing whisky and a unique bottling from Duncan Taylor of Huntly.

Nose: typical sherried Mortlach, and big time! Starts with struck matches – which is absolutely not a bad thing in this context, I insist, no rotten truffles or brand new rubber boots and such -, gunpowder (same comments), flints and roasted chestnuts, with then in the background, prunes, chocolate, leather and that very typical meaty or even gamey profile.

With water: becomes more herbal, on parsley and chives, plus rocks and clay, then quite a lot of beef stock. Old wine cellar. Mouth (neat): a rich and extremely spicy attack, on peppered ham and then even more chestnuts than in the nose. Glazed chestnuts? Loads of that, and then a little caraway, liquorice and… yeah, chestnut honey.

With more water: more fruits now, Seville oranges, dried bananas…

Finish: long, with the pepper, ginger and caraway back in the aftertaste. Comments: an extremely typical big-bodied sherried Mortlach. The burnt matches profile won’t please everybody but I loved the chestnuts! Reminds me of the old Flora & Fauna cask strength, same kind of profile.

Sold out.

OCTAVE 2 was a stunning 17 year old Glen Grant at 54.6% abv.

GLEN GRANT TASTING NOTES.

Nose:  Sweet, vanilla and tropical fruits

Palate: A burst of fruit and custard creams with a lovely creamy and warm mouth-feel. This is at it best sipped with no water in my opinion, but adding a few drops brings out a biscuity, lemony flavour and a hint of pineapple.

Finish:  A whisky that lingers and fills the mouth with fresh fruiyty flavours. The Octave finish provides a lovely aftertaste reminiscent of a "Lowland" style.

Sold out.

MY 3RD CASK BOTTLING was a Bladnoch 20 year old at 55.9% abv.

BLADNOCH TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Sweet vanilla with floral notes and some barley sugar sweets?

Palate: A lovely creamy mouth-feel with citrus notes coming through and some tropical fruits, pineapple, mango?
Lots of complexity and a wonderful expression at 20 year old.

Finish:  warm, reeking, rich as Rabbie Burns would say. Leaves you wanting to pour anither!

Sold out.

MY 4TH BOTTLING was  a Kilchoman 5 year old at  60.4% abv.

KILCHOMAN TASTING NOTES:

Nose:  Typical soft peat aromas, lime and pear drops, complex for age.

Palate:  Sweetness first, soft peaty smoke and ripe fruity notes.

Finish:  Long and clean with peat smoke and soft citrus fruits arriving later.

Only 72 bottles of this rare private bottling so only one bottle per customer/household.  Sadly sold out on 26/2/14.....a rare bottling indeed.

MY 5TH BOTTLING OF GLEN ORD 15 YEAR OLD at 57.3% abv.

An amazing and rare bottling from the distillery. One of 141 bottles and not many left as of June 2014.  ALL SOLD OUT DECEMBER 2014.

GLEN ORD TASTING NOTES:

Nose: An immense toffee aroma with citrus notes and a hint of spice

Palate:  Again massive toffee and home made tablet with chocolate orange notes and a hint of pepper and spice. Also a fruity, bubble gum and toffee apples at a funfare notes.

Finish: Sweet, long and warming with a hint of spice, cinnamon perhaps?  Also grassy, woody notes at the end. Extremely more-ish.

TASTING NOTES FOR LOCHRANZA 18 year old at 52.9% abv.

BOTTLING NUMBER 6 , available August 2014. Sold out December 2014!

Nose: Sweet, honeyish with fruit cake raisins and a whiff of "Hubble Bubble" chewing gum!

Palate: Sweet and spicy with a complex but wonderful sherried kick.  Turns fruity with a little water. Once again "Dundee cake" comes through.

Finish:  Long and sweet with a lovely aromatic, spicy, liquorice mouthfeel. Warming finish.

An excellent dram and a very early cask from Arran Distillery.  Thank to Gerard Bell for the opportunity to bottle for SFTC.

Sold Out!

BOTTLING NUMBER 7 -TASTING NOTES FOR  BRUICHLADDICH 12  year old at 63.6% abv. BY GEORGE WILSON, JIM WILSON, TAM BIVANS AND ALAN MITCHELL 21/11/14

Nose: Fruity and sweet, candy floss?, with a hint of pepper in the background. Also get some woody notes.

Palate:  Biscuit/cereal flavour with hints of citrus, lemon and oranges, with a lovely creamy mouthfeel. Like a good brandy!

Finish:  A long, creamy finish with a dusting of burnt embers from a crackling log fire.  Oranges still prevail. A great winter dram.

Sadly, in some ways, all sold out.  The best yet say my customers!!
